Aboriginal Islander Education Officer

My name is Shauna Narrier and I am the Aboriginal Islander Education Officer at Clarkson Primary School. My role involves mentoring/student support within the school providing both educational and emotional support to our Aboriginal students. This also involves liaising with the families to get the best outcome for the children attending school and providing family support. I coordinate with the student service team and am an attendance officer; student attendance is a vital component in a child's education.

We have a few programs running in the school which I help coordinate, one being the Kurlanga Aboriginal Play Group run through Patricia Giles Centre. We have Relationships Australia - Moorditj Yarning Program running once a week with partnership with Balga High School who provide support to our school projects. I am also Involved in providing cultural awareness throughout the school , supporting class activities, running NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation, Sorry Day etc.

Improving the educational outcomes of Aboriginal students is a key priority for our school. We want Aboriginal students to gain the knowledge; skills and understandings they need to achieve and enjoy education success. We want parents and community members to become more involved in their children's schooling.
